Tom Wilson BA(Hons), MA, PhD

I am an experienced demographic modeller and data analyst specialising in population projections, household projections, demographic data analysis, and understanding local demographic change. I have over 20 years’ experience in demographic research and practice, and have worked in the academic sector, the public service, and consulting. I am passionate about understanding Australian demography, and modelling future demographic trends.

I regularly work with State/Territory, federal and local government, preparing population projections, or providing advice in their preparation of their own projections. I have devised a number of demographic estimation and modelling methods which are used by demographers in Australia and overseas, including projection programs used by several State/Territory Governments.

I was awarded a Bachelor's degree (first class honours) and PhD from the University of Leeds, UK, and a Master's degree from the University of Sussex, UK. I have worked at the University of Southamption, University of Queensland, Charles Darwin University, and the University of Melbourne, Many of my academic publications are available via ResearchGate; a few selected papers on Australian demography are described on the Research page of this site.

I have been a member of the Australian Population Association since 2000.
